Beijing Adds Power To Hinkley Point C

China is to take a one-third stake in the Hinkley Point C EPR with a follow on Sizewell C, and the right to build a Chinese designed nuclear plant on the site of the old shut down n-plant at Bradwell…

It has to be remembered that the ‘deal’; engineered by PM Cameron and the Chinese Premier is an Accord, only, with no legal validity. The real decision — investment in Hinkley C — has yet to be made. There are many hurdles yet to overcome: existing financial obligations; agreement as to when Hinkley C must be operational; further huge delays in the EPR at Flamanville — another 3 years to completion – unacceptable weaknesses in the EPR reactor pressure vessels already made; and last, but not least, the resolution of the Austrian plus German renewable companies’ legal appeal against the proposed huge monetary subsidy in support of the project agreed by the EU.
