‘Up to 400 workers at the site of the new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point face being laid off while the owners decide how much more to invest in the £16bn project. The French company EDF Energy has almost completed the preparatory earthworks, drainage, support facilities and roadworks on the multibillion-pound project in Somerset but is yet to decide on investment to mark the beginning of the construction of the plant. While awaiting a decision ~ expected “in the coming months” — the company had launched a 45‘day consultation for redundancies, union officials said.’
